Utah provides a property tax exemption for veterans with a disability acquired in the line of duty (Utah Code 59-2a-501): the exempt amount equals the disability percentage multiplied by the adjusted taxable value limit, which rises each year with inflation. Ratings under 10% do not qualify. A veteran the VA certifies as individually unemployable is treated as 100% disabled. The unmarried surviving spouse or minor orphans of a disabled veteran can also claim it, and the unmarried surviving spouse of a veteran killed in action or who died in the line of duty is exempt on the total taxable value. Apply to your county by September 1; once a statement of disability is on file, you do not need to file another unless the percentage changes.
